Hi everyone!
Just starting this as an entry so we can get a thread going. Have you guys read this account yet? It's a pretty long set of passages, going through a huge expanse of time (creation! and then the whole account of Adam, Even, the serpent, and the forbidden fruit!)
I had TONS of thoughts while reading this . .so many thoughts I'm not sure if I can get them into a cohesive paragraph. So I'll just throw them out there . .
I was visualizing creation, and I had the hardest time figuring out how God separated the "water from water" to form the sky.
"So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it"
I had a couple interesting observation of what the world was like when God first created it:
1. Plants grow pretty naturally without much "toil." It was not until after the fall that it took work to grow plants, and thus to survive.
2. Adam doesn't need to kill any animals to survive. He can live off of plants, and just has "dominion" over the animals.
3. God concluded that because Man now knew the difference between good and evil, he could not also take from the tree of Life and eat & live forever, so he was banished from Eden.
Any thoughts? Please leave them in the comments. Happy reading!
Actually yes - when I read these chapters again I the notion of plants and fruits being God-given food really sticks out as well!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about these 3 chapters: I once again am struck by how much we are true to our "human nature" to this day: when we sin, we blame others... Adman blame Eve, Eve blame serpent...
LOL thought the same thing too! We're supposed to be vegetarians! What happened to the Garden of Eden? Did it get destroyed?
ReplyDeleteYeah, agree with you about the blaming . . *sigh* . .mankind. Can't wait until we aren't ridden by sin.
